Mastercard Launches Afrobeat And Amapiano Sonic Anthems To Deepen Cultural Connection Across Africa

Mastercard strengthens its cultural presence in Africa with the release of two new sonic anthems — “Wami” in the Afrobeat genre and “Amazwe” in Amapiano. The tracks feature Nigerian music star Mayorkun and South African sensation Sho Madjozi, blending Mastercard’s global sonic identity with sounds that resonate deeply with African audiences.

The initiative supports Mastercard’s broader strategy to connect with Africa’s youth through music, technology, and innovation. Produced by LeriQ and Gemini Major, the anthems reflect the energy, optimism, and creative power that define the continent’s music scene.

“We’re excited to bring our sonic brand to life in a way that’s uniquely African. Afrobeats and Amapiano are not just musical genres; they are cultural movements. By collaborating with incredible talent like Mayorkun and Sho Madjozi, we’re creating a sound that connects emotionally with consumers while reinforcing trust and innovation in every transaction,” said Ahmed Abdel-Karim Hussein, Executive Vice President, Integrated Marketing & Communications, Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa, Mastercard.

The release builds on Mastercard’s Artist Accelerator Program, which supports emerging talents with mentorship, digital tools, and funding.

LeriQ, a program alumnus and producer of Wami, said “Having been part of the Mastercard Artist Accelerator, it’s exciting to continue the journey by collaborating with Mayorkun on this vibrant track. I am proud to keep representing Africa on the global stage through this Mastercard project,”

Sho Madjozi added, “Collaborating with talented local artists and producers to fuse Mastercard’s sonic identity into a fresh Amapiano anthem was both fun and meaningful. The result is a track full of energy, rooted in the vibrant spirit of South Africa.

“Amazwe”, led by Sho Madjozi and performed with Mthunzi and Sfundo Ndimande, channels the spirit of South Africa’s vibrant Amapiano movement, while “Wami”, performed by Mayorkun, captures Afrobeat’s dynamic blend of rhythm and storytelling.

The Sonic anthem lauch will include official music videos and a TikTok dance challenge to engage fans and further Mastercard’s connection to the creative economy.
