Airtel Nigeria Hosts Strategic Workshop to Accelerate Innovation in BFSI and Utility Sector

Airtel Nigeria, a premier telecommunications and digital solutions provider, reaffirmed its commitment to national progress with a strategic two-day workshop targeting Nigeria’s Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI) and utility sectors. Hosted from July 8 to 9 at Lagos Continental, the exclusive event convened C-suite executives and industry leaders to collaborate on innovative, technology-driven solutions vital to these critical industries.

The event featured two main themes: “Banking on Innovation: Powering Financial Services with Connectivity” on Day 1, and “Accelerating Nigeria’s Digital Leap: Smarter Networks, Smarter Business” on Day 2. These sessions aimed to address sector-specific challenges, unlock growth opportunities, and promote smarter, more connected operational practices.

Delivering the keynote, Airtel Nigeria’s Managing Director and CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation, particularly in the finance and energy sectors. “From power and water to finance, transportation, and logistics—this is a defining moment for every sector. The key isn’t whether to adopt digital solutions but how swiftly and intelligently we can do so. Airtel Nigeria is committed to moving beyond basic connectivity and becoming a true digital partner for these industries,” he stated.

Balsingh outlined Airtel’s enterprise solutions portfolio, including:
-IoT: For smart metering, leak detection, energy optimization, and real-time asset monitoring.
– CPaaS Enabling secure, multi-channel customer engagement through SMS, WhatsApp, Voice, and USSD.
– NaaS: Providing flexible, secure connectivity with cloud-enabled agility.

He further explained that Nigeria’s power and energy sectors face significant modernization challenges—legacy infrastructure, fragmented systems, and limited real-time visibility. “Airtel’s tools—IoT, CPaaS, and NaaS—are designed to transform operations, enhance service delivery, and generate better outcomes for both businesses and consumers,” he added.

Abhishek Biswal, Chief Business Officer of Digital Services at Airtel India, showcased Airtel’s IoT Hub, demonstrating its potential to revolutionize energy distribution and utility management.

Biswal remarked, “The future of finance and energy is digital—secure, scalable, and seamless. When financial institutions and utility providers partner with telcos like Airtel, we’re not just connecting systems; we’re building smarter, integrated digital ecosystems for all.”

Ogo Ofomata, Director of Airtel Business, called for increased collaboration among industry stakeholders, emphasizing Airtel’s role as an enabler. “We value the trust you place in us. Sometimes problems aren’t apparent until we come together. This workshop is about understanding your needs and co-creating tailored solutions,” she said.

Luc Serviant, Group Enterprise Business Director at Airtel Africa, highlighted ongoing investments in 5G and LEO satellite technology to enhance connectivity, especially in underserved regions. “Reliable, intelligent infrastructure—such as 5G and satellite solutions—is fundamental to Nigeria’s digital future. We’re committed to empowering service providers to operate more efficiently, respond in real-time, and deliver uninterrupted services across the country,” he stated.

The workshop concluded with positive feedback from stakeholders, who advocated for the inclusion of regulatory agencies like the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in future editions to foster more comprehensive sectoral collaboration.
