Fidelity Bank Expands Food Bank to Anambra, Feeds 2,000 Vulnerable Residents

Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, to Anambra State, providing vital food supplies to more than 2,000 vulnerable residents in Awka, the state capital.

The two-day outreach took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Catholic Diocese, Awka, and Emmaus House, Anglican Diocese of Awka. The relief distribution targeted the elderly, widows, and other vulnerable community members, offering much-needed support during challenging times.

During the event, Dr. Nosa Orumwense, Regional Bank Head – Awka, reaffirmed Fidelity Bank’s dedication to combating hunger and enhancing community welfare. “The Fidelity Food Bank was established to support our host communities’ well-being. We are proud to bring this initiative to Anambra State, working with our partners to ensure that those most in need receive assistance,” he said.

The initiative received widespread praise from community leaders and beneficiaries alike. Rev. Father Levi Ukor, Director of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, emphasized the importance of corporate collaboration in addressing hunger. “Partnering with Fidelity Bank on this noble cause demonstrates true compassion and social responsibility. Hunger remains a pressing issue, and such efforts make a real difference,” he remarked.

The Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, highlighted food as a fundamental human need and encouraged other corporations to emulate Fidelity Bank’s example in supporting the less privileged.

Chinedu Okafor, Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, also commended the bank’s timely intervention. “This support comes at a critical moment for our community. Many residents are facing economic hardship, and Fidelity Bank’s generosity offers much-needed relief. We pledge our continued support for initiatives that promote community welfare,” he stated.

Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude. Mrs. Adanma Mbah shared, “The food will go a long way in supporting my family. Thank you, Fidelity Bank — this couldn’t have come at a better time.” Mrs. Nnenna Okeke added, “More organizations should follow Fidelity’s lead. Food support like this restores hope and helps alleviate hunger.”

Since launching in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has distributed over 250,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, reaching more than 300 communities nationwide. The program exemplifies Fidelity Bank’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life in its host communities.

Fidelity Bank Plc remains one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, serving over 9.1 million customers through its extensive network of 255 branches across Nigeria and its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited. The bank has garnered numerous awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI), and recognition as Nigeria’s Best Bank for SMEs by Euromoney.
