IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS), one of the world’s largest independent owners and operators of shared communication infrastructure, has announced a strategic partnership with the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The collaboration aims to promote the adoption of clean energy and enhance environmental health standards within the FCT.
The partnership was formalized on September 25th during a signing ceremony at the IHS Nigeria headquarters in Lagos. This alliance marks a significant milestone in joint efforts toward environmental sustainability, climate action, and improved public health across Nigeria’s capital.
Both organizations are committed to tackling critical environmental issues by advocating for cleaner, sustainable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) towards climate change mitigation and fostering a healthier environment for residents.
Under the agreement, IHS Nigeria will collaborate with HSES on community-driven projects that encourage the use of renewable energy, decrease dependency on fossil fuels, and improve environmental health standards in the FCT.
Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, expressed his enthusiasm: “Environmental responsibility is at the heart of our sustainability efforts. With over 16,000 sites nationwide, we recognize our role in reducing emissions and expanding clean energy solutions. Our investments in solar and hybrid power solutions, totaling over $750 million in the past decade, exemplify this commitment. Partnering with HSES allows us to extend our impact by supporting healthier communities and contributing to Nigeria’s energy transition goals.”
Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of HSES, added: “There is no health without a clean environment. Our partnership with IHS Nigeria demonstrates how the public and private sectors can collaborate to promote sustainability and safeguard public well-being. Through this alliance, we aim to showcase practical solutions like clean cooking and renewable energy adoption, inspiring other regions across Nigeria to follow suit. The FCT is proud to lead by example.”
This landmark agreement not only underscores IHS Nigeria’s dedication to sustainability but also bolsters the FCT’s efforts to build climate resilience, protect the environment, and enhance public health.
