Savannah Energy Announces Board Transition with Appointment of Two Nigerians as Independent Non-Executive Directors

Savannah Energy PLC, an independent British energy company dedicated to impactful projects across Africa, has announced strategic changes to its Board as part of its ongoing succession planning. The company will be bidding farewell to Sir Stephen O’Brien and David Clarkson, who are retiring after serving as Directors for eight years, and welcoming two distinguished Nigerian professionals, Uyi Akpata and Kehinde Olamide Ogunwumiju, as new Independent Non-Executive Directors.

Sir Stephen O’Brien, the Vice-Chair, and David Clarkson, a Non-Executive Director, have both made significant contributions to Savannah’s governance and growth. The Company expressed gratitude for their dedication and announced that they will continue to support Savannah in advisory roles.

Uyi Akpata, a seasoned Chartered Accountant with over 40 years of experience, formerly held senior leadership roles at PwC Nigeria and West Africa. He is renowned for his expertise in audit, finance, and governance, and now serves as Chairman of several organizations including emPLE Life Insurance and the Nigerian Cricket Federation.

Kehinde Olamide Ogunwumiju, Managing Partner at Afe Babalola & Co, is a distinguished Nigerian lawyer and one of the youngest Senior Advocates of Nigeria. His extensive experience in arbitration and representing Nigeria in high-profile disputes adds substantial legal expertise to the Board.

Joseph Pagop Noupoué, Savannah’s Chairman, commented: “This transition reflects Savannah’s commitment to evolving its governance structure in line with its strategic ambitions. We thank Sir Stephen and David for their invaluable service and look forward to leveraging the expertise of Uyi and Kehinde to support our growth across Africa.”

Sir Stephen O’Brien remarked: “After 11 years with Savannah, I am proud of the company’s transformation into a leading African energy player. I look forward to supporting its future endeavors in a new advisory capacity.”

David Clarkson added: “It has been a privilege to contribute to Savannah’s journey. I remain committed to supporting the company as a Technical Advisor.”

The company also provided an update on its financial reporting schedule, stating that its 2024 Annual Report and Half-Year Results are now expected to be published during the week commencing 13 October 2025. Trading in Savannah’s shares remains suspended until the accounts and trading update are released.
