The MTN Foundation Science & Technology Laboratory Project, on Tuesday, commissioned seven laboratories at Government Day Science Secondary School (GDSSS) Gombe, aimed at boosting technological advancement among schoolchildren.
According to PUNCH Online report, the newly established facilities include two Chemistry labs, two Biology labs, two Physics labs, and one Agricultural Science lab. This initiative is part of the MTN Foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving educational resources in Nigeria.
Abdulhakim Mudansir, the principal of GDSSS Gombe, expressed appreciation towards MTN for their investment in the school’s educational infrastructure, stating, “This laboratories will serve as the much-needed catalyst for development.”
Also, the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Abdullahi Bappa, applauded the foundation for the laboratories, noting that they would provide a significant boost to his administration’s efforts to improve the quality of education.
Yahaya added, “We thank MTN Nigeria for choosing Government Day Science Secondary School. This is one of our best schools, and we believe that this partnership will help to promote science development in the state, in line with our administration’s commitment to revamping education.”
Dr. Aishatu Maigari, the Commissioner for Education, also commended the donation, noting its potential to transform the educational landscape in Gombe. She added that the state is open to more collaborations, stating, “MTN has shown the meaning of ‘doing creates the future’.”
Hamza Ibrahim, MTN’s Senior Manager, explains that the Science & Technology Laboratory Project aims to renovate and equip science laboratories while providing teacher training. He noted that the current phase of the project includes renovations in six schools across six states, bringing the total investment to over N2 billion for 102 laboratories across 15 states in the last three years
This initiative reflects MTN Nigeria’s commitment to empowering youth and promoting academic excellence in public secondary schools, providing students with the resources to realize their potential in science and technology.
