CREDICORP Unveils YouthCred Scheme in Lagos to Empower Nigerian Youths

In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and its ongoing efforts to expand access to government-backed credit, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, has launched the YouthCred initiative in Lagos.

The scheme’s debut took place at the Ipaja orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), following an earlier rollout at the Kubwa NYSC camp in Abuja. The event was graced by key officials, including the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, and CREDICORP’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, along with other stakeholders.

Dubbed ‘Real Financial Knowledge. Real Credit: Transforming a Generation with the Right Money Skills for a Bright Future,’ the YouthCred scheme aims to provide responsible, fair, flexible, and affordable consumer credit to over 400,000 young Nigerians, including NYSC corps members.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Olawande emphasized that the YouthCred initiative is not limited to corps members but is accessible to all youths, regardless of their background. He highlighted that the scheme enables young people to turn their innovative ideas and initiatives into reality.

Engr. Nwagba described YouthCred as a revolutionary movement poised to foster a new credit culture across Nigeria. He noted that President Tinubu envisions a future where young Nigerians are empowered to take control of their financial destinies, with CREDICORP playing a pivotal role. Nwagba also stated that the scheme seeks to reshape the youth’s perceptions about money, borrowing, trust, and financial responsibility through a nationwide campaign.

Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, describing it as a groundbreaking federal government effort. He commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s continued commitment to youth empowerment, social inclusion, and gender equality in Lagos.
