Passengers at Nigeria’s busiest airports can now enjoy complimentary high-speed internet access following a new partnership between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and MTN Nigeria. The service was officially launched on Thursday, 19 February 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2, Lagos, signalling a major step in improving airport passenger services.
FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, speaking on behalf of Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, described the initiative as a “groundbreaking achievement aimed at elevating service delivery standards across Nigerian airports.” He emphasised that the collaboration not only provides free Wi-Fi but also reflects FAAN’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced passenger convenience.
Lynda Saint-Nwafor, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, highlighted the telecom company’s role in supporting the Federal Government’s digital inclusion agenda. She noted, “Everyone deserves the benefits of a modern, connected life, and providing fast, reliable Wi-Fi at key airports is central to this mission.”
The free Wi-Fi is now active at MMIA Terminal 2, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with plans to expand the service to MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports in the coming months. FAAN stated that this partnership demonstrates the power of effective public-private collaboration in modernising airport infrastructure and aligning services with international standards.
The rollout is expected to benefit passengers who rely on internet connectivity for flight updates, ride-hailing apps, business communications, and other essential travel needs. FAAN further highlighted that reliable internet is now a baseline expectation for global travellers.
The initiative also reinforces MTN Nigeria’s broader commitment to deepening digital inclusion nationwide, supporting the federal government’s digital economy agenda, and advancing the objectives of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. By bridging digital infrastructure gaps through collaboration, FAAN and MTN aim to enhance value both inside and beyond Nigeria’s airport terminals.
