Five 2 Media Entertainment has released its latest film, ‘Remi X Nneoma’, as the production company returns to the Nigerian film industry.
‘Remi X Nneoma’ is a story that explores love, grief, and the path to emotional healing. It presents a fresh and intimate take on the timeless themes of loss and resilience, drawing inspiration from the biblical tale of Ruth and Naomi. In Remi X Nneoma, Five 2 Media crafts a narrative that centres on women, their struggles, and the powerful bonds that help them rebuild their lives after tragedy.
The film tells the story of the Amadi women, who are united by shared grief. Following the sudden loss of their loved one, Nneoma decides to remain in Ikwerre, staying close to her roots and her community. Her daughter-in-law, Remi, insists on remaining by her side, despite societal expectations that might suggest otherwise. Together, they confront the challenges of widowhood, cultural pressures, and the delicate process of moving forward after heartbreak.
In the stillness that follows their loss, Remi finds herself unexpectedly drawn into a new love, which in turn opens the door for both women to rediscover hope and begin the journey towards healing. The story is a reflection on the quiet strength required to face life after tragedy and the everyday resilience that defines so many women’s experiences.
Remi X Nneoma marks a creative comeback for Five 2 Media, a company previously recognised for producing thought-provoking titles such as On the Edge, Full Circle, Xtra Mile, and A Night in 2005. With this latest project, the company not only reaffirms its place in the Nigerian film industry but also signals a new direction towards deeper, more character-driven storytelling.
The film is spearheaded by Solate Ovundah-Akarolo, the Executive Producer, who is known for her work on the award-winning film Xtra Mile, which clinched recognition at the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival. She is joined by award-winning actress and producer Bikiya Graham-Douglas, who serves as the producer of Remi X Nneoma and also stars in the film. Together, they lead an exceptional all-women creative leadership team, a rarity in Nollywood’s mainstream production space.
Directed by Lyndsey Efejuku and written by Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu, Remi X Nneoma captures the nuanced relationship between two women who, despite initial silence and tension, grow to understand and support each other. The film unpacks the realities of widowhood in Nigerian society, the societal pressures placed on women, and the small moments of human connection that can transform lives. The film’s soundscape is shaped by acclaimed music supervisor Kalinè, whose previous work includes Breath of Life and After 30, known for their emotionally resonant scores.
The cast features some of Nollywood’s most respected talents. Bisola Aiyeola delivers one of her most emotionally demanding performances yet, portraying the role of Remi with depth and vulnerability. Veteran actress Liz Benson Ameye also takes on a lead role, bringing gravitas to the character of Nneoma. The film also stars Uche Montana and Ifeanyi Kalu in key roles, alongside special appearances by celebrated actors Eucharia Anunobi, Martha Ehinome, Kelechi Udegbe, Tina Mba, Kunle Coker, and Buchi Franklin.
Speaking about the film’s message, director Lyndsey Efejuku said, “This film is about resilience, not in grand gestures, but in the everyday acts of showing up, moving forward, forgiving, and choosing hope.”
For Bikiya Graham-Douglas, who both produced and acted in the film, she said, “This is a story about rewriting the rules. It’s about women deciding to choose their own direction, even when it’s difficult. That was very important to us as a team.”
Solate Ovundah-Akarolo, explained that the project carries deep personal meaning for her, she said, “This is a deeply personal journey, but it’s also one that so many people, especially women, will relate to. The pain, the decisions, the quiet strength. It’s all very real, and it’s all in the film.”
With Remi X Nneoma, Five 2 Media marks a new direction in its storytelling, emphasizing rich character development, emotional authenticity, and grounded realism. The company aims for the film to connect deeply with viewers, inspiring meaningful dialogue around grief, love, resilience, and the subtle strength found in healing.
