Koolboks has unveiled Koolbuy, a platform delivering cooling solutions to homes and businesses, addressing biting inflation, petrol price hikes and intensifying heat waves.
According to Ayoola Dominic, the Chief Executive Officer of Koolboks, the initiative aims to empower small businesses and homes struggling with power outages and food wastage. The firm unveiled the platform recently in Lagos.
Dominic explained, “If you can’t keep your food cold, you can’t keep your business alive. Koolbuy turns the sun into a business partner for those who need it most.”
According to Koolboks, all appliances are sourced from reputable brands, and it would not compromise on safety and environmental standards. Dominic added, “We refuse to sell toxic tech. No R134a. No R22. Just clean cooling for a warming world.”
In it’s drive for sustainability, the company also launched Scrap4New, a programme that allows customers to trade in old, polluting appliances in exchange for solar-ready, energy-efficient ones.
“If we get cooling wrong, we’ll cook Africa,” Mr Dominic warned. “Koolbuy is our chance to leapfrog, not inherit a broken model.”
He added that Koolboks’ flexible financing options allowed customers to rent, buy, or swap appliances daily, weekly or monthly, with as little as a 10 per cent initial deposit.
He said, “This is not just about convenience — it’s about survival. Lack of cooling ruins medicine, accelerates food waste, and fuels climate change.”
Citing data, the firm revealed that more than 40 per cent of food in Sub-Saharan Africa is lost due to poor refrigeration, and only 17 per cent of the population has access to cold storage, compared to 90 per cent in developed nations.
Deborah Gael, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Koolboks, announced the launch of PowerFoot Pedestal, a solar system that turns any freezer into a fully off-grid appliance with rooftop panels and lithium batteries, noting, “Imagine running your frozen food business without spending a naira on petrol. That’s the freedom we’re offering.”
The firm also unveiled Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson as a brand ambassador to deepen public engagement.
