Maxitrust Launches MAXI-WASH to Boost Clean Water Access

Maxitrust Microfinance Bank Ltd, in partnership with Water.org and the National Association of Microfinance Banks, has launched MAXI-WASH, a flagship funding package in demonstration of its commitment to health, dignity, and sustainable living in the country.

According to UNICEF, the grassroots-oriented product, which was unveiled in Port Harcourt, refers to initiatives in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene sector that aim to ensure every child has access to safe and adequate drinking water, reliable sanitation facilities, and essential hygiene practices.

Idris Abdullahi, Managing Director of the MfB, speaking at the product launch, said, “MAXI-WASH is more than a loan product: it is a commitment to health, dignity, and sustainable living. Through this product, we are empowering households, schools, markets, and communities to access clean water, build modern toilets, water storage systems, hand-washing facilities, and improve hygiene standards in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). Our partnership with Water.org and NAMB underscores the power of collaboration in addressing real human needs. By combining access to finance with access to safe water and sanitation, we are helping to build healthier communities and a more productive environment.”

Abdullahi, while thanking Ugo Ejim, Board Chairman, and members of the board for their visionary leadership, the NAMB and Water.org for their technical support, urged customers of the bank to take advantage of the introduction of the MAXI-WASH facility as a tool for transforming lives, homes, and businesses.

In his brief remarks at the event, the Board Chairman said, “Today’s event is not just another product launch; it is a demonstration of how finance can be used as a tool for social transformation. With MAXI-WASH, we are extending financial access to promote clean water, improved sanitation, and better hygiene, the essentials of human dignity and sustainable living. At Maxitrust Microfinance Bank Ltd, our Board remains committed to products and partnerships that create real impact in people’s lives. MAXI-WASH reflects our strategic vision of combining innovation, inclusion, and community development.”

Mr Mohammed Idris, the National Treasurer of NAMB, described the association’s partnership with Maxitrust MfB and Water.org on the product launch as desirable for improving Nigeria’s healthcare and hygiene system.

Idris said, “Let me say here that the collaborative efforts of the NAMB, Maxitrust MfB, and Water.org on the MAXI-WASH facility are a right step towards building systems that will eradicate the menace of open defecation, provide quality and affordable water supply, and by implication, improve healthy and quality lifestyles for millions of Nigerians and other residents in the country.”

For Gilbert Okopon, Senior Partnership Account Officer of Water.org, “The MAXI-WASH loan product by Maxitrust MfB is poised to break financial barriers, enabling families to invest in health, dignity, and a better future. Access to safe water and hygiene is not a luxury but a right. Together, we’re building a future where safe water and sanitation are within everyone’s reach.”
