The Recording Academy revealed the 67th Grammy nominations, with Nigeria making a powerful showing in the Best African Music Performance category. Leading the charge are Burna Boy and Asake, returning to the spotlight. Burna Boy, a Grammy veteran, earns a nod for his song “Higher,” while Asake and Wizkid share a nomination for their collaboration, “MMS.”
Davido secures his second nomination in this category for his feature on Chris Brown’s track “Sensational,” also bringing in a first-time Grammy nod for Lojay on the same song. Yemi Alade celebrates her first solo nomination with her hit “Tomorrow,” and Tems receives a nod for “Love Me Jeje,” rounding out a remarkable year as the only African artist nominated in three global music categories. Her album “Born in the Wild” is up for Best Global Music Album, with an additional nod for Best R&B Song for “Burning.”
This year marks Burna Boy’s sixth consecutive Grammy nomination, establishing him as the most nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history. His first nomination in 2020 and 2021 win for “Twice as Tall” have since paved the way for increased African representation on the global stage.
Other Nigerian nominees include Jordan Adetunji, who gains recognition in the Best Reggae Album category for his contribution to the “One Love” soundtrack, and Rema, nominated in the Best Global Music Album category for his sophomore project, “HEIS.”
On the international scene, Beyoncé leads the Grammy race with 11 nominations for her genre-blending album *Cowboy Carter*, setting a Grammy record with entries in categories spanning pop, rap, country, and Americana. Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone follow closely with seven nominations each, while Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter have six each.
