PUBG MOBILE Celebrates Salah with Makoko Community

PUBG MOBILE, a mobile games platform, celebrated this year’s Eid al-Adha by bringing food and joy to residents of Makoko, a waterfront community in Lagos, Nigeria.

Held on Sunday, June 9th, the initiative saw over 500 residents receive freshly prepared lamb rice meals during a community gathering at Apollo Community, Makoko.

The outreach was designed to feed families and foster the spirit of giving during the Muslim festival, as a part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts under the theme “PUBG MOBILE Cares Nigeria”.

According to Brian, Head of Tencent Games (the publisher of PUBG MOBILE) in Sub-Saharan Africa, the company is committed to making a positive impact beyond the digital entertainment space.

“We believe in doing more than just entertaining people through gaming, we want to touch lives,” said Brian. “Eid is a time of compassion and generosity, and we’re proud to use this moment to give back to a vibrant community like Makoko.”

The event drew participation from local leaders, volunteers, and community members, who joined hands under a large tent by the waterfront to distribute the meals. Volunteers included local influencers and fans of the game, all working to ensure a smooth and respectful experience for residents.

High Chief Orioye Jephtath Ogungbure, the Head of the Makoko community, expressed gratitude for the gesture. He said, “It’s not every day we see global brands come down to Makoko to genuinely connect with our people. This gesture means a lot to us, especially during a festive season like this.”

He also offered prayers and blessings to PUBG MOBILE for organising what he described as a thoughtful and impactful event.

Patrick Okoro, TikTok influencer and virtual gaming personality, popularly known as “Priest”, also participated as a volunteer. He said, “This is one of the most organised charitable outreaches we’ve had. The coordination, the quality of the food, and the respect shown to our people are commendable.”

Co-developed by Lightspeed Studios of Tencent Games and KRAFTON, Inc., PUBG MOBILE was globally released in March 2018. Since then, it has become a global gaming phenomenon, available in over 200 markets and boasting more than 1 billion downloads and 50 million daily active users.

Brian added that the company plans to deepen its community engagement in Nigeria. He concluded, “In the future, we will continue these efforts and establish more connections with local NGOs to carry out meaningful corporate social responsibility activities.”
