Smartcash Announces Zero Fees on Transfers, Bills, and SMS Alerts

In a groundbreaking move, Smartcash Payment Service Bank (Smartcash PSB), a subsidiary of Airtel Nigeria, has announced the launch of its Zero-Charges initiative, eliminating all transaction fees for interbank transfers, bill payments, and SMS alerts.

This pioneering policy aims to dismantle financial barriers and significantly reduce costs for millions of Nigerians. By removing fees on essential banking activities, Smartcash is fostering greater adoption of digital financial services, promoting financial inclusion, and making banking more accessible—especially for unbanked populations and low-income households.

During the launch, Tunde Kuponiyi, CEO of Smartcash PSB, highlighted that this move is more than a pricing change; it is a revolution in how Nigerians engage with digital finance.

“Removing fees on transfers, bills, and even SMS alerts transforms the customer experience. We’re putting the power back into the hands of Nigerians—making digital banking affordable, accessible, and inclusive,” Kuponiyi stated. “This initiative will ease financial pressures on households and small businesses while opening new opportunities for millions of Nigerians to embrace digital transactions confidently and without fear of hidden costs.”

He further emphasized that with a majority of Nigerians relying on  mobile and digital platforms for daily transactions, Smartcash’s Zero-Charges model will strengthen its commitment to customer-centric innovation, aligning with Airtel’s broader mission to improve lives through connectivity and technology.

Smartcash’s zero-fee approach aims to set a new industry standard, fostering a more inclusive financial ecosystem that encourages trust, transparency, and widespread participation. It is expected to reshape customer expectations and drive industry-wide shifts toward affordability and accessibility.

“At Smartcash, we believe financial technology should empower everyone, regardless of where they live or their economic status,” Kuponiyi added. “Our Zero-Charges initiative underscores this belief—giving every Nigerian the opportunity to transact seamlessly and confidently, whether in urban centers or rural communities.”

By removing transaction charges, Smartcash demonstrates its commitment to customer-first innovation, trust, and creating a more inclusive financial environment for Nigeria.
