On Tuesday, June 10th, Tier 5 Technologies, a leading enterprise IT and cloud services provider in West Africa, disclosed that it has entered into a strategic partnership with MongoDB, a global leader in database technology for modern applications, to support its expansion in the West African market, with a focus on Nigeria.
The partnership was announced during “Legacy Modernisation Day” event held in Lagos, co-hosted by the two companies. It is aimed at helping organisations across the region modernise their legacy infrastructure and harness the benefits of artificial intelligence.
Africa’s digital economy is projected to reach 100 billion dollars, and this collaboration is designed to position both companies at the forefront of that growth. MongoDB’s technology powers millions of developers and over 50,000 customers worldwide, including 70 per cent of Fortune 100 companies.
Anders Fabry, Regional Director for Middle East and Africa at MongoDB, said the collaboration marks an important milestone in the company’s regional strategy.
Fabry said, “Partnering with Tier 5 Technologies is a pivotal step in deepening our presence in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and a key economic engine for the continent. Tier 5 Technologies brings a proven track record, a strong local network, and a clear commitment to MongoDB as their preferred data platform. They have already demonstrated their dedication by hiring MongoDB-focused sales specialists, connecting us with top-level executives, and closing our first enterprise deals in Nigeria in record time. We are excited about the impact we can make together in this strategic market.”
MongoDB’s product portfolio includes MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and MongoDB Atlas, a fully managed suite of cloud database and data services available across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. MongoDB Atlas is particularly suited to the African market, where cloud adoption is accelerating and traditional IT infrastructure often presents challenges. The platform allows developers to deliver scalable, low-latency applications without the constraints of legacy systems.
Afolabi Bolaji, Director of Sales at Tier 5 Technologies, described the partnership as strategic and transformative.
“This is not just a reseller deal,” he said. “We have made significant investments in MongoDB because we believe it will underpin the next generation of African innovation. Many of our customers from nimble fintechs to established banks, already rely on it. Now, they will have access to enterprise-grade features, local support, and global expertise.”
The partnership also reflects a broader shift in the global tech landscape, as technology providers increasingly view Africa not just as a consumer market but as a source of innovation, talent, and enterprise demand. With rising needs in areas such as fintech, logistics, education technology, and artificial intelligence, the collaboration holds promise for long-term impact.
By combining MongoDB’s global capabilities with Tier 5 Technologies’ local expertise, the companies aim to support African enterprises in building scalable, future-ready digital solutions and accelerating the continent’s digital transformation.
