Spotify has unveiled its Global Impact List in Nigeria, highlighting the top 30 Nigerian tracks with the largest global reach on Spotify during the first half of 2024.
The list celebrates Nigerian songs that achieved significant listens from audiences outside Nigeria between January 1 and June 30, 2024, reflecting their international popularity and influence.
Notably, female artists, particularly Ayra Starr and Tems, have emerged as front-runners on this list, with top-ranking hits following their recent album releases.
This acknowledgment underscores the growing prominence of female voices in Nigerian music on the global stage. Another major trend reflected in the list is the impact of international collaborations, with eight of the top ten songs featuring partnerships with international artists.
Noteworthy collaborations include Pheelz and Usher, and Burna Boy with both 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, emphasising the cross-cultural appeal and expanding global footprint of Nigerian music.
Commenting on this achievement, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, stated, “Nigerian music, especially Afrobeats, has captivated global audiences with its infectious rhythms, compelling storytelling, and innovative sound fusions. Its ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries is truly remarkable.
At Spotify, we are thrilled to witness and support the continued evolution of this vibrant scene.”
