The organisers of the Idoma International Carnival have announced the theme and date for the highly anticipated 2024 edition.

Titled “The Rhythm of Our Heritage,” this year’s event is set to take place from December 23 to 26, 2024, in Otukpo, Benue State.

Known for its colourful display of Idoma culture, the carnival promises to offer an unforgettable experience celebrating the rich heritage of the Idoma people.

Now in its 12th year, the Idoma International Carnival, often dubbed the largest street party north of Niger, has grown into a beacon of cultural pride and unity, attracting participants and visitors from across Nigeria and around the globe.

In a statement on Friday, Edwin Ochai, the president and founder of the carnival, said the 2024 edition will continue its legacy as a dynamic platform showcasing Idoma history, music, dance, fashion, and unique customs.

He said, “There will be spectacular parades featuring vibrant costumes, traditional music, and captivating dance performances that embody the rhythm and essence of Idoma heritage.

“Also, there will be the Idoma Cuisine Festival, a celebration of authentic Idoma flavours, where local chefs present the diverse dishes central to Idoma culture.

“Performances by local and international artists, alongside traditional Idoma dancers and drummers, highlight the unifying power of music and dance.

“Art and Craft Exhibitions: Exhibits showcasing traditional Idoma artistry and crafts that have been passed down through generations.

“Symposiums and Workshops: Discussions and workshops on culture, identity, and heritage preservation in today’s world.

“Pageantry and Awards Night: A glamorous night celebrating talents and contributions to the community, culminating in the crowning of the carnival queen.”
