Organisers of the Rotary Sports Festival has officially unveiled the logo for ROSFEST ’25 and announced the event dates, marking the launch of preparations for the second edition of the annual festival. The unveiling ceremony took place on Friday at the Rotary District Office in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Scheduled to run from February 28 to March 7, 2025, ROSFEST ’25 will feature a variety of sports, including golf, football, chess, swimming, table tennis, athletics, scrabble, flag football, ayo olopon, tennis, volleyball, snooker, draughts, and tug-of-war, offering a wide range of competitive opportunities for participants.
Speaking to journalists and distinguished guests at the event, PP Alozie Nsirimobi, Chairman of the Rotary District 9112 Sports Activities Committee, explained the vision behind ROSFEST, noting that it aims to promote healthy living within the Rotary community and beyond.
Nsirimobi elaborated on the festival’s evolution from a local club competition, ROFEST, to a broader Nigeria District Sports Festival (NIFEST), with potential plans for expansion into zones as AFRIFEST, and possibly an international Rotary sports event under the name RIFEST.
District Governor Olufemi Adenekan of Rotary International District 9112 expressed optimism about the upcoming festival, stating that organisers are dedicated to surpassing the success of the inaugural edition. “We are looking at achieving a bigger success next year.
From now till 2025, we hope to build on the previous festival, attract more participants, and engage more clubs,” Adenekan said. He added that Rotary aims to eventually involve all six districts across Nigeria, with the long-term goal of establishing ROSFEST as a national event.
Adenekan also highlighted the importance of sports as a pathway to healthy living and social connection, encouraging Nigerians to view sports as a valuable aspect of life. “My advice to people is to engage in activities that promote bonding, as sports provides a great avenue for connection and camaraderie. In challenging times, these interactions are vital in combatting issues such as depression,” he emphasized.
The District Governor further noted that participants in ROSFEST stand the chance to win valuable prizes, including land properties, which could make a meaningful impact in their lives. “I invite everyone, both Rotarians and non-Rotarians, to join us in this event,” he said, extending an open invitation to the wider community.
The event concluded with the lighting of the ROSFEST torch, symbolizing the commencement of the journey toward a successful 2025 festival.
